When it comes to finding the right skincare regime for your skin it can seem like a never-ending task, however with a few simple steps within your routine, this will be move you in the right direction for your desired skin goals. With so much skincare advice out there and masses of products to choose from, the beauty world can be very daunting, however there are 4 simple steps that can form the foundation for a smart skincare regime.
Step 1: Cleanse
Cleansing the skin removes excess oil, sweat, dirt and other unwanted pollutants that your skin collects throughout the day and night. Cleansing your skin in the morning and evening will ensure your face is fresh when completing your next steps in your skincare regime. Your cleanser type will vary depending on your skin type, but ensuring your hands are clean prior is key to prevent dirty from your hands entering your pores.
Step 2: Tone
Toning may seem an unnecessary addition to your skincare regime, however it removes any residue left behind by the cleanser and also aids removal of any areas missed by your cleanser. Toning also will prepare your skin to absorb your moisturiser and will minimise the appearance of pores. Selecting your toner will solely depend on your skin type.
Step 3: Exfoliate
Daily our skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells, but sometimes these cells can build up on the surface of our skin and may require extra assistance to remove these unwanted skin cells. Exfoliating removes these unwanted dead skin cells that have accumulated on the skin surface, which can lead to blackheads and breakouts. For best results exfoliate after toning and before moisturising, you can exfoliate 1-3 times per week, but this will depend on your skin type and how sensitive your skin reacts to exfoliation. There are granule (sugar and salt) and chemical (AHA and BHA) exfoliators, both effective at removing dead skin cells, however chemical exfoliators penetrate the skin deeper generating a more effective removal of blackheads and preventing clogged pores.
Step 4: Moisturise (with or without SPF)
Moisturising is a key step in your skincare routine, and it is one you don’t want to skip out. Moisturising provides a protective layer to the skin that helps lock in moisture to keep your skin looking smooth and more radiant in appearance. Choosing a moisturiser will depend on your skin type and needs, however during the day it is vital to have a moisturiser that includes a SPF of at least 15. Whereas picking a moisturiser for night, should supply the skin with enough moisturiser to help skin repair throughout your sleep.
