What do the ‘top’, ‘heart’ and ‘base’ notes mean?

Written By Billie Adams

Each fragrance is designed with top, middle and base notes, these are the ingredients that make up each perfume. The notes are the structure of a fragrance which are grouped into 3 categories. We have created a quick guide which will help you understand each category fully:

The top notes are the first you will smell when trying on a fragrance, these tend to be fresh and fruity scents which fade after 10-15 minutes.

The heart notes come after the top notes fade, these tend to be floral scents which are long-lasting compared to the top notes.

The base notes are the scents which help determine if you like the fragrance, these are the notes which stay of the skin the longest creating your much loved fragrance.
