What causes male pattern baldness?

Written By Sam Robinson

Male pattern baldness also known as ‘Androgenetic Alopecia,’ is caused by genetic predisposition and male sex hormones.

Hair loss occurs when the hair is exposed to the male hormone, ‘Dihydrotestosterone’ (DHT), this exposure weakens the hair structure over time and shrinks the hair follicle eventually leading to baldness.

Male pattern baldness is usually genetic and a natural result of aging however it can also indicate other underlying health issues. Unfortunately male pattern baldness can affect up to 50% of men over the age of 50 to some extent.
